Skiaths Airport

Skiathos Airport :- Alexandros Papadiamantis (JSI) serves the Northern Sporades Islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos. The airport is located 2 Km east of Skiathos town, on the eastern coast of Skiathos. Built in the early 1970s, the airport is built on land reclaimed between the islands of Skiathos and the smaller island of Lazareta, effectively turning the two islands into one. The 1600m narrow runway, was once considered to be one of the shortest in Europe.
Skiathos airport provides scheduled international flights from and to the UK, Holland, France, Italy, Germany and Greece
Originally a private airstrip, Airport was built for the Onassis Olympic Aviation, it now handles upwards of 200,000 passengers a year, generally from the Mainland Greece and Europe.
Taxis and an irregular bus service, connects the airport to Skiathos town, with onward boat/ferry services to the other islands.
Facilities at Skiathos airport are limited but include bars, cafes, car hire, restaurants and a shop. Toilet facilities are poor and limited.

Skiathos Buses

The local Skiathos bus service is actually very good, but you should bear in mind that there is only one Main Skiathos route, so if there is a problem with the roads there is no other route or service for most of the island, many tourists however, do opt to use the local bus service, the red line travels the full length of the southern coastal road from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries and returning to the town. Buses operate at about 20-30 minute intervals in the summer months during most of the day, the frequency of buses will reduce during the lunch period. Buses will often be crowded particularly between 4:00pm – 7:00pm coming back in to town, and if you are heading into towns this time of day from one of the bus stops 18 onwards it can be better to catch the west bound bus and stay on at stop 26 for the return to Skiathos Town.
A mini-bus service to the Airport is sometimes available (blue line) which continues on to Ksanemos (Xanemos) Beach, you will need to check locally about this (it may or may not operate) and a service to Evagelistria Monastery (green line) every 30 - 60 minutes,

Taxis and Boats

Taxis are readily available from the town center rank can be booked by phone, or flagged down at the roadside, they are generally very good, clean and reliable. At a bus stop don't be surprised if a cab stops and offers you a ride, but remember that if the taxi isn't full he may well stop and pick up additional passengers on route. When taking a taxi, in all cases negotiate the price before getting into the car.

During the summer months boat tours are available from the port, boats may agree to drop passengers at beaches and coves en-route. Regular services leave from the port to Achliades, Tzaneria and Kanapitsa beaches. Look out for their notice boards.
